Types of Facelifts

Weekend Facelift

(The “S” Lift or Mini Facelift)

The weekend facelift, named after its short recovery period, is a less invasive, cheaper, and safer alternative to the traditional facelift.

The weekend facelift specifically addresses jowls, which are sagging skin below the chin or jawline. The procedure is quick, simple, and can easily fit into anyone’s lifestyle and lift self-confidence.

Extended Weekend Facelift

If jowls are not a patient’s only concern and they would also like to add lift to the neck, Dr. Williams can perform an extended weekend facelift.

This is a customized procedure that combines the facelift with some improvement in the neck area.

The extended weekend facelift requires a slightly extended recovery time compared to the weekend facelift, and a slightly longer surgery time due to a longer incision. This incision extends along the back of the ear and stitches remain for one full week. The procedure is performed using IV sedation along with local anesthesia and takes about two hours.

Traditional Facelift

A traditional facelift, or SMAS facelift, addresses the jawline, sagging upper and lower neck skin, vertical neck bands, jowls, lower and mid nasolabial folds, and marionette lines.

This facelift combines two techniques to elevate facial tissue and return it to its youthful spot without putting tension on the overlying skin or incision. This results in a long-lasting, more youthful appearance for patients who choose to undergo this procedure.

Weekendlift / Necklift/ Mid-Facelift

(AKA Deep Plane Face and Neck Lift)

The weekend / necklift / mid-facelift involves an advanced deep plane facelift which modifies deep tissues in the face, allowing for a more natural repositioning.

Dr. Williams enters a deeper plane to better release the midface, jawline, and neck structures.

By releasing and mobilizing tissue more efficiently, he can tighten and redrape the tissue more effectively. This allows for more precise tailoring of the skin and tissue resulting in a more youthful look without any tension.
This procedure addresses the lower two thirds of the face, as cheeks are lifted and repositioned to the ideal location.

    • Men and women ranging in age from their 30s to their 80s looking to reduce the appearance of facial aging
    • Are in good general health and emotionally stable
    • Have realistic expectations and are aware that a facelift will not stop the aging process
    • Patients who have signs of aging in the lower third of the face, neck, and jowls.
    • Those who accept potential risks of surgery
  • What are the risks of facelift surgery?

As with all surgeries there are risks. The potential complications that can occur with facelift surgery include but are not limited to adverse anesthesia reactions, bleeding, infection, and poor healing to name a few.

The best thing a patient can do is find a surgeon that is highly qualified and experienced in facial rejuvenation and exclusively performs facial surgery. These risks will be discussed during the consultation. We provide a high quality of care to achieve the best outcome here at the Williams Center.

  • What is the cost of a facelift in Albany, NY?

Costs for a facelift can vary according to the type of facelift you are having.  Surgeons fees begin at $4,900.00* and can go up to $15,000.00* for a Weekend Facelift/Neck lift/Mid-Facelift, which is often referred to as a Deep Plane Facelift.

*There are additional Operating Room and Anesthesia fees.

  • Where would you have a facelift surgery performed?

We generally operate at New England Laser and Cosmetic Surgery Center (NELCSC), a free-standing surgery center located at the Williams Center for Plastic Surgery in Latham, New York.

If the patient has medical issues preventing this, we will perform the surgery in a hospital setting such as Albany Memorial Hospital or Albany Medical Center.

At NELCSC, our surgeons have their own teams working with them on a regular basis. Our patients are cared for in a state-of-the-art facility offering them a private setting with a highly trained staff.

  • What else should I know before having my surgery?

    • Incision lines (scars) are a normal outcome of surgery and are placed in areas concealed within the hairline or within natural folds of the skin. Placement of incisions will be discussed in detail during the consultation process.
    • Recovery time is one to two weeks depending on the type of facelift procedure. In-depth education, working with a specialized surgical team, and the use of advanced techniques all lead to less bruising. Light to normal activities of daily living can be resumed the day after surgery.
    • Lasting results are seen from these surgical procedures; however, results may be affected by lifestyle and skin care.
    • After outpatient surgery, patients may return home. Our out of town guests usually stay at a local hotel nearby.
    • Patients should arrange for a responsible adult to escort them home after the procedure and to stay with them for a minimum of 24 hours following the surgery.
